Polluting foam blankets Tagus river – ‘the worst ever seen’

TejoFoamA blanket of evil-looking, brown foam, called “Dante-esque” and ‘the worst ever observed’ has covered an area of this Tagus river downstream of an industrial place in which factories as well as their dumping of effluent are being ‘closely viewed’ from the Ministry of those Environment.

The ever-vigilant proTEJO Movement, whose ecological protector and chief Arlindo Marques currently is being prosecuted for $250,000 by one of the mills, (HERE), listed for posterity the blanket of polyurethane that on Wednesday coated the Tagus from the Abrantes area.

The environmentalist emphasized the “brown water” and “deadly foam blanket” that covered a huge area of the water at the Abrantes region that morning had been “one of the worst scenarios” ever listed in this part of the lake which leaks past Lisbon to the sea.

“It looks like the scene from a movie, there’s so much foam that you can barely see the water,” stated Marques, lamenting the continuation of “very serious environmental, social and economic problems,” and emphasizing “the anger and despair of fishermen” as with all the water in this state, fish won’t enter the estuary and float up the Tagus.

The councillor charged with ecological issue in Abrantes council, Manuel Valamatos, stated he had been amazed with a “brutal scene of pollution,” in what he called a “scary situation.”

“We have no information on where it came from,” stated Valamatos, imagining the Portuguese Environment Agency “was here in the morning to collect water samples,” he’s waiting to find out more.

The Ministry of those Environment stated that It’s aware of the situation and proceeds to follow along, “in a very intense way, everything that goes on in the Tagus River.”

Arlindo Marques stated the pollution is coming in the Vila Velha p Ródão factory area as upstream from there the water is apparent.

“Today is another black day in the history of pollution in the Tagus River,” stated the environmentalist, including that “Someone must get a grip, be it that the President of those Republic or the Government, since, if that carries on there’ll not be any life left at the river”
